Care home residents celebrate rock ‘n’ roll on nostalgia afternoon

ROCK ON. Entertainer Keith McFarlane, left, with rock ‘n’ roll fans at Colten Care’s Canford Chase care home in Poole.

Residents at a Dorset care home enjoyed music, dancing and memories on a lively rock ‘n’ roll-themed afternoon.

The fun at Colten Care’s Canford Chase in Poole featured entertainment from singer and guitarist Keith McFarlane who shared tales of his time spent touring with legendary bands such as Status Quo and The Monkees and achieving chart success in the UK and South Africa.

Vicky Day, the home’s Companionship Team Leader, said: “Residents enjoyed chatting with Keith about his favourite music and asking questions about his experiences in the music industry.

“The afternoon sparked many happy memories, with residents reminiscing about the fashions and dance halls of the 1960s and 1970s.

“Conversations turned to petticoat skirts, teddy boy shirts and the iconic ducktail hairstyles popular at the time.”

Resident Pam Stone said: “What a wonderful afternoon of singing and dancing. It was so much fun to be able to enjoy such a talented musician in the comfort of our home.”

And fellow Valerie Hanson said: “It was like visiting the dance hall on the weekend.”

To help with the nostalgia theme, Canford Chase team members hung rock ‘n’ roll- decorations and memorabilia in the lounge including images of vinyl records.
