Children from St Bernadette’s RC Primary School visited Brinnington Hall care home for a day of intergenerational fun.
Regular visitors at Brinnington Hall, the children had a hand in redesigning the care home’s garden for Ideal Carehomes’ Gardens in Bloom competition in summer 2023.
During their most recent trip to Brinnington Hall, the children from St Bernadette’s Wellbeing group joined the residents for games, colouring, and a chat about the residents’ histories.
Resident Patricia Paradine, aged 93, said ‘It was just like old times for me because I used to be a teacher. I taught year four, the same age as the children who came to see us. I was great to be part of it all again!’
St Bernadette’s student, Grace, aged nine, added, ‘I really enjoyed the colouring, and I especially liked the treats we shared, everyone was smiling.
‘I think the residents were glad to see it and it was wonderful to chat and learn about the jobs that some of them did. Brinnington Hall is a happy place to be.’
Karen Harrison, the Home Manager at Brinnington Hall, commented, ‘At Brinnington Hall, we are strong believers in the benefits of intergenerational relationships.
‘Seeing the children sparks memories of our residents’ childhoods and family lives, which brings them so much joy. In turn, the children improve their communication skills and build their confidence in meeting new people.
‘We look forward to welcoming St Bernadette’s again very soon for more intergenerational fun at our Easter Fair in March.’
Brinnington Hall’s Easter Fair will take place in the care home on Saturday 30th March from 13:00 until 16:00 at Brinnington Hall care home, Middlesex Road, Stockport, Manchester, SK5 8HT.
All are welcome to enjoy an Easter parade, egg hunt, games and entertainment from The Amazing Stephen Magic and Puppet Show.
