A care home in Winchester has raised hundreds of pounds for a city hospice charity with an annual summer fete.
Abbotts Barton in Worthy Road boosted Winchester Hospice, its chosen charity, to the tune of around £800 from the event.
The Colten Care nursing and residential care home staged the event in its gardens, with the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Jamie Scott, popping in to take part in the activities.
Residents, relatives, friends and staff enjoyed the fun and lively atmosphere, as well as a variety of stalls, including crafts, books, a bottle tombola, plants, cakes galore and the traditional raffle.
Children’s attractions included a coconut shy, splat the rat and hook a duck. There was also live music from entertainer Retro Rita who had everyone singing along. The chefs at Abbots Barton put on a delicious BBQ and there were plenty of refreshments for everyone.
Resident Joan Jacomb said: “It was a wonderful afternoon. I loved watching the children running around having fun.”
Cllr Scott said: “A big thank you for inviting us to the fab summer Fete, we enjoyed meeting all the staff and residents, and joining in the fun.”
Abbotts Barton Home Manager Dee Lovewell said: “The fete gave us a wonderful opportunity to showcase our home and garden as well as raising funds for our chosen charity.
“We are yet to pull together the final total raised, but it is around £800 which is a fantastic amount to donate to Winchester Hospice. Many thanks to all the generous folk who contributed.”
Winchester Hospice provides free specialist palliative and end of life care to adults with a life limiting illness who live in the Winchester area and relies on charitable donations for a proportion of its funding to help maintain its vital work.
Alice Wright, Corporate Fundraising Officer at Winchester Hospice said: “It was a lovely afternoon and great to meet some of the care home staff and residents as well. We had lots of lovely conversations and raised much needed funds for the hospice.”
