Home Instead has partnered with Training 2 Care to take its virtual dementia experience bus on a UK tour this August in the run up to World Alzheimer’s Month. The dementia experience allows a person with a healthy brain to experience what life might be like for a person living with dementia.
Supported by medical research, the state-of-the-art ‘dementia bus’ uses technology to replicate the sensory changes associated with dementia. Participants wear googles, headphones and spiky insoles. They are then asked to perform everyday tasks but with distorted vision, loud noises and sensory overload which recreate what it’s like to have dementia.
The tour is kicking off at Home Instead Stockport on August 6th and will visit a number of offices throughout the month including Home Instead Wirral, Tamworth, Sheffield, Eastbourne, Chingford, Norwich, South East Northumberland, Harrogate, Bristol, Bath and Swindon.
The experience takes around 3 hours and includes a debrief to help participants understand what they have experienced as well as sharing useful tips and strategies to make the world a better place for people living with dementia.
Speaking about the tour, Martin Jones MBE, CEO UK & International of Home Instead said: “Around 65% of our clients are living with dementia and so it’s incredibly important to us to do everything we can to support those clients and their families.
“We want to educate people about this condition. The more people who understand dementia, the better.
“Well done to our franchise teams who are taking part and supporting this initiative – we look forward to hearing their feedback.”
Limited places are still available, at a cost of £60 per ticket.
