Louise at Fairwinds care home achieved her 2024 goal of recording an original song…six months early!
Louise, who lives at Rotherham’s Fairwinds complex needs care home, part of Exemplar Health Care, has fulfilled her goal of visiting a recording studio in Sheffield to record her first single, ‘Toppin’ and Tailin’.
She also took advantage of the studio’s empty stage to record her own music video for her song, along with covering popular hits by ABBA, Westlife, and Take That.
Known for brightening the care home with her singing, it came as no surprise when Louise set herself the goal of writing her own song and singing more at the beginning of the year – and she certainly delivered on that promise.
As well as visiting the recording studio, Louise took to the mic at Fairwinds care home’s 20th Anniversary party, delighting the audience with renditions of ‘You Raise Me Up’ and ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’.
In January of this year, members of the Service User Council at Exemplar Health Care were asked to share their goals for 2024, as part of the organisation’s ‘New Year, New Career’ recruitment campaign, a campaign Louise’s input helped to create.
The campaign is focused on finding individuals who are not just seeking a job but who are passionate about contributing to the wellbeing of those supported by social care services, such as Louise, and many others across the care provider’s 52 homes.
Louise expressed her excitement over her achievements:
“I had the best day and I loved singing so many songs! Being in the recording studio was a dream come true. I felt like a music star as getting to record my own song is something I’ve always wanted to do.”
This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the committed care team that support Louise.
Julie Sheppard, the Activities Coordinator at Fairwinds care home who accompanied Louise to the recording studio, added:
“Seeing Lou achieve her goals has been incredibly rewarding. Her passion and dedication to her music are truly inspiring. Being there to support her in the recording studio was an unforgettable experience. Lou was so excited and it’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. I’m so proud of her and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.”
Kath Dye, Home Manager at Fairwinds care home, commented:
“I’m so proud of my whole team, and how everyone individually supports all of our wonderful residents. This a fantastic example of us going above and beyond to ensure our residents have a meaningful life and, most importantly, fun!”
Fairwinds care home, which has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, supports adults living with complex mental health needs.
