Residents, staff, volunteers and relatives at Jewish Care’s Sidney Corob House care home were delighted to attend The Sidney’s award ceremony recently. The Sidney’s is an Oscar-style awards ceremony celebrating the inspiring accomplishments and contribution of residents, volunteers, staff and external professionals who go above and beyond.
Alongside the awards, the care home team together with the Friends of Sidney Corob House care home, organised a summer barbeque to mark the occasion. Sidney Corob House care home supports residents over 50 with mental illness with an ethos centred around empowering residents by focusing on their abilities and talents, which were celebrated through the awards.
Sandra Saintus, Jewish Care’s Mental Health Services Registered Manager at Sidney Corob House care home, says, “The Sidney Awards serve as a momentous occasion to celebrate the collective and individual successes within our community, reinforcing our commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for all residents, supporting them to be as independent as possible.
“This year’s Sidney Awards are a testament to the incredible achievements of our residents, who have successfully accomplished numerous personal goals and targets. The event also recognises the unwavering commitment of our dedicated staff and volunteers, who have consistently gone above and beyond to enrich the lives of those of the residents.”
Each award winner received a distinctive Sidney Award, symbolised by a tree-shaped structure formed from the letters S.I.D.N.E.Y. This emblem represents the personal growth and development of each recipient. Every award emphasised empowerment, positivity, honouring the unique accomplishments of each individual.
The awards were given out by special guest of Honour and politician, Lord Stuart Polak.

Sarah said, “I have always travelled a lot around the world and being in Sidney Corob House whenever there is a departure anywhere, museum, beach, park, I am always ready first. My family accompanied me in this event, and I feel very identified with this award.”
The award for Outstanding Development of Trust went to Michelle Kotlar, Rosalind Austin, and Julien Kurland. Michelle was so happy to receive her reward, saying, “At the beginning of the event, it was a little difficult for me to attend but thanks to Sandra and Tomás, who encouraged me to go, I was proud when they named my name to pick up the award.”
Rosalind Liebert receives the Most Creative Eye for Detail award for her unparalleled artistic vision and meticulous attention to detail. Glenda Kibel is celebrated with the Outstandingly Supportive of Others award for her unwavering encouragement and selfless support that uplifts those around her.

The residents are supported to be part of the community in the home, and in our local community, and the staff and volunteers work together to understand and support each person. I’d like to thank the staff, volunteers and Committee for making the awards so special and the afternoon such a success.”
