An Extra Care service in Hull is celebrating after receiving a ‘Good’ rating following their recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, with the team praised for their kindness and approach to care.

Creative Support, a national not-for-profit provider of social care, runs the Cecil Gardens Extra Care Service, providing specialist support for older people with different needs including dementia and learning disabilities.

We are delighted that Cecil Gardens has been rated ‘Good’ in all five of CQC’s ‘Key Questions’. This is the service’s first inspection since Creative Support became the service provider in 2022.

The CCQ report states: “People received person-centred care. The provider arranged a calendar of events which people were invited to attend, with the aim of fostering inclusion and community. Staff knew the people they cared for, and we observed they were respectful and attentive in their approach. People told us staff were kind, their comments included, “We couldn’t ask for better staff than we’ve got,” “They are kind and caring,” and, “The staff are beautiful.””

Lyndsey Downes, Service Director at Creative Support who oversees Cecil Gardens, said: “This service and its inspection is a real testament to all the staff and mangers at Cecil Gardens who have collaboratively worked in a person-centred way to ensure all support is reflective of the people we support. We all believe in the ethos that we will do anything to make the lives of our tenants’ safer, better and more fulfilled. It’s been a journey and I am beyond proud. This report highlights areas where we can continue to improve and we’re on the right track.

Saima Taj, Area Manager who oversees Cecil Gardens, said: “It’s been a massive Creative Support team effort. In the past 12 months we’ve achieved so much in such a short space of time. We’re so proud of everyone who helped get Cecil Gardens this amazing outcome.
