This Christmas, Nellsar Care Homes united residents and team members from 11 of its 13 homes across Kent, Surrey and Essex to deliver a heartwarming rendition of the classic carol, The 12 Days of Christmas.

The choir was made up of 126 residents and team members with a combined age of 7,439 years – including a resident aged 98. This highlights the true spirit of togetherness, reflecting Nellsar’s commitment to creating meaningful and memorable experiences for its residents.

The performance features contributions from 11 Nellsar homes, with every location adding its unique touch to the festive favourite. What makes this choir particularly special is the number of residents who brought their musical talents to the forefront.

Among those with musical experience is Janet, from Hengist Field Care Centre, a talented pianist who helped guide the choir during rehearsals, ensuring they stayed on beat and in harmony. David, from Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home, a former jazz trumpet player with an impressive singing voice, also played a key role in rehearsals, keeping everyone on rhythm.

Additionally, Tom Murray, 90 and Jerry Miller, 94, both long-time friends and experienced choir members from Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home, were central to the melody. Tom, who once shared the stage with Michael Caine in his youth, helped set a warm, inclusive tone during rehearsals with their enthusiasm and leadership, encouraging others to join in.

Viv Stead, Recreation and Well-Being Manager at Nellsar Care Homes, said: “Seeing our residents each deliver a special performance has been an absolute joy. We wanted to create something that not only celebrated the Christmas spirit but also allowed our residents to reconnect with their musical talents. The 12 Days of Christmas is a traditional carol that our residents have cherished for years and this spirited rendition is a beautiful way for them to take part in that tradition.”

The choir brings a rich wealth of experience and life stories, making it a truly unique and touching tribute to the holiday season. The video of their performance will be shared with residents’ families and across Nellsar’s social media channels, offering a glimpse into the festive cheer that defines life at Nellsar Care Homes.

Viv continued: “Our residents loved being part of this fun and creative project and the energy during rehearsals was uplifting. For many of them, music is a source of great joy and nostalgia and this performance gave them an opportunity to share that joy with their loved ones. It’s a gift we’re excited to share with the wider community, spreading cheer and the message of togetherness.”

From virtual world cruises to seasonal performances, Nellsar Care Homes is passionate about making every day special. The group’s person-centred approach encourages residents to be active participants in Home life, where fun, creativity and well-being go hand in hand.
