Milewood celebrates diversity at annual Milewood’s Got Pride Event in Middlesbrough

Milewood, a leading provider of living services for adults with intellectual disabilities, recently hosted its annual Milewood’s Got Pride event in Middlesbrough.

This year’s celebration was held at the Dorman’s Club and was a vibrant display of diversity, inclusivity, and community spirit.

With its unique approach centred on viewing care from the resident’s perspective, Milewood ensures that individuals can access the choices and rights they deserve. The organisation is dedicated to promoting independence and fostering an inclusive community for all its residents.

The Milewood’s Got Pride event particularly honoured the diversity within the group, shining a spotlight on the LGBTQ community. The event was a riot of rainbows, featuring fantastic entertainment featuring Drag Queen Monarchy and an array of great music from DJ Peter Clark. Guests danced the afternoon away, forging new friendships with peers from across Milewood’s services.

Martyn Heginbotham, Chief Executive Officer of Milewood, commented on the success of the event: “We are immensely proud of our Milewood community and the diversity that enriches it. Milewood’s Got Pride is more than just an event; it is a celebration of each individual’s unique identity and a testament to our commitment to inclusivity. It is heartening to see our residents enjoying themselves, expressing who they are, and building lasting connections.  I really want to thank Ged and his team for arranging such a wonderful event.

“One thing we try to do at Milewood is more inclusive events, not just Pride but a football tournaments and Milewood’s Got talent so there’s a lot to look forward to.”

Colin, a Milewood service user, said: “It was a fantastic environment for us to interact with other people and to get to know them better.”

The event was a joyous occasion, celebrating the strength and unity of the Milewood community, and reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to supporting the rights and independence of adults with disabilities.
