Oaklands House care home, a member of the Healthcare Homes group, is excited to announce the launch of the “Hungry Hearts Lunch Club” – a community initiative aimed at providing a warm meal and companionship to elderly members of the local community.
This innovative project presents a wonderful opportunity for individuals in the community to join Oaklands House residents for a hot meal, some much-needed company and entertainment. The Hungry Hearts Lunch Club is a welcoming space for those who are seeking connections with like-minded individuals. This initiative comes following their successful Christmas Lunch Club, last year.
“Before Christmas 2023, Mel [the home’s Administrator] and I were thinking of ways to encompass some Christmas spirit from Oaklands into our community.” Said Ian Gooch, Manager of Oaklands House. “After much deliberation, we settled on a Christmas lunch club throughout December. The Christmas lunch club was more of a success than we could ever of imagined and we welcomed many of our community through our doors.”
Based on the roaring success of the Christmas Lunch club, The Hungry Hearts Lunch Club follows suit, and is open to elderly members of the local community every week. The club does its best in emphasising the role of socialisation and connection in promoting well-being.
“To be able to provide our community who would otherwise be alone or worried about being out of the home a chance to do so in a warm, safe and friendly environment is the greatest gift of all. It gives residents a means of reconnecting with the community that most of them have lived in for many years. This brings new faces and friends into the home and helps to form those important bonds of life.” added Ian.
The cost for a meal is set at £10.00, with an additional £10.00 option for those looking to take part in the activities hosted at the home (morning or afternoon), with 2 open spaces every day. While the option to participate in activities is available, the focus remains on fostering a warm and inviting space for shared meals. For those expressing interest, Oaklands House provides the weekly menu to allow participants to choose a meal tailored to their preferences.
“Looking into the future I would love to be able to implement a full day centre into the home. If Hungry Hearts is the success that we all hope it will be, I will be looking at expanding the times and available slots to support a wider volume of our community who may need the additional support.”
