A couple who fell in love while working at a care home in Birmingham have officially tied the knot — with a surprise wedding reception thrown by colleagues, residents and family within the care community where they first met.
Alex and Lacey Halapciuc met when they both joined Abbey Rose, a state-of-the art care home in the peaceful suburb of Erdington. Four years later, the couple are now married and were surprised with a wedding reception at the Ivyfield Road home.
The pair both worked on the same floor of the home, Alex as a registered nurse, and Lacey as a care assistant. Over the past few years, they forged a strong bond as Lacey progressed to a nurse’s assistant and started working closer with Alex and soon their affection for one another became evident. Last year, during a trip to Alex’s home country, Romania, the couple got engaged.
On their special day, Alex and Lacey tied the knot at Birmingham Registry Office before they were whisked away to their reception party at Abbey Rose, transforming the home’s pub into a place of celebration and love – which wouldn’t have been complete without a wedding cake.
The couple were touched by the thoughtful gesture, expressing their gratitude to the entire team and the residents who shared in their joyous occasion. Alex said: “We both enjoy our jobs and feel fortunate to help people on a daily basis. We both love being around our residents and ensuring they have a smile on their faces, so to have them to help celebrate our big day was just wonderful.”
Alex and Lacey’s love story is a testament to the meaningful connections that can blossom within the walls of Abbey Rose, making their union a truly special event for the entire care home community and fostering an environment where both residents and staff become a family.
