Residents living at The Guinness Partnership’s Pickmere Court in Crewe, an independent living scheme for people over 55, recently had a visit from some very special guests.
Local mobile farm Mobile Farm Cheshire came along to the scheme, and residents along with their families and children, were able to pet and feed the various animals.
The animals that visited were two French lop rabbits called Flopsy and Mopsy, Valais black-nose sheep called Otis and Freddie, a Shetland pony called Lyra, goats called Alfie and Ronnie, and Silkie chickens, Bluebell and Snowdrop. The residents also had the thrill of being able to walk around the grounds with the larger animals.
The visit was made even more enjoyable for the residents when they saw the children’s faces light up, on seeing the animals.
Carly Sproston from The Guinness Partnership said: “Everyone had such a wonderful afternoon with the animals. Bringing animals to Pickmere helps to promote social interaction, improve cognitive functions, and encourage physical activity. Giving the residents a chance to interact with the animals brought immense joy and vitality to everyone.”
Joy, a resident at Pickmere Court said: “I couldn’t wait for the animals to come into Pickmere. I am blind so can no longer see these lovely animals anymore, but I can touch and feel. I was able to hug a pony and stroke the sheep and goats. By touch, I could tell what animal they were. This really brightened my day. These animals gave Joy so much joy. Excuse the pun!”
Pickmere Court in Crewe is an independent living scheme for people over 55 which supports residents so they can live independently, and which allows them to live a full and active life.
