A Sutton care home has selected a local hospice as its fundraising focus for the coming 12 months – starting its efforts in style with a ‘hoedown’.
Sutton Rose Care Home announced St Giles Hospice as its Charity of the Year, pledging to support the local hospice with additional funds for 2024 and 2025.
The team kicked off the partnership with an exciting folk dancing ‘hoedown’ fundraiser, already raising hundreds of pounds.
The event, held at Boldmere Bistro, brought together residents, family, staff, and members of the local community for a day of fun, raising a fantastic £666 for the hospice.
The hoedown was described by the care home as “the most amazing day,” with residents from Sutton Rose and neighbouring apartments joining in the lively celebration.
The local community also came out in force, showing their support for a great cause.
Marie Accison, care home manager, said: “We’re so pleased to be able to support St Giles Hospice this year and we will be sure to have some fun raising much needed funds for them along the way.”
Entertainment at the event was provided by Michelle’s Line Dancing Troupe, and live music from the ‘No Direction’ band kept the atmosphere buzzing throughout the afternoon. Visitors were treated to an array of market stalls, and a raffle added to the fundraising excitement.
A spokesperson from St Giles Hospice expressed their gratitude for the generous support, saying: “Thank you so much for your support. It’s thanks to our incredible community that we’ve been able to care for patients and their loved ones over our 40-year history.”
For Sutton Rose, this is just the beginning of a series of fundraising events planned for the year to support the vital work St Giles Hospice does for people living with terminal illnesses in the community.
