The people living at St George’s Court Care Home welcomed a new member to their family this
year, Libby the Dachshund.
This friendly four-legged companion was given a very warm welcome by the people who live at St
George’s Court, and since she has moved in, Libby has made a big difference to people’s lives.
For those who are animal lovers, having a pet inside a care home can have a profound impact on
their mood and wellbeing. Animals provide a strong sense of companionship and a different type
of company than humans can offer. Feeling animal’s fur and showing them love provides comfort
and can also help to bring back fond memories from pets people have owned in the past.
Home Manager, Jayne Wardell, decided to welcome Libby into their family after seeing the
positive impact of PAT dog visits. She observed friendly interactions, an abundance of smiles, and
a desire to welcome visiting dogs back as soon as they had left. So, bringing Libby into the family
was a decision that everyone embraced.
Now, a few months after Libby joined the St George’s Court Family, she is beloved by all. Referred
to as Jayne’s little helper, Libby can regularly be found seeking strokes in the manager’s office, or
cuddling with the people who live at St George’s Court. Her lively, friendly and playful nature
brightens every room she enters, and Libby has quickly become top of the popularity list.
She provides comfort during times of difficulty and entertainment on command. The impact Libby’s
presence has had inside the home is unmatched, and everyone living at St George’s is delighted
to have their very own four-legged companion.
