The partnership will support more people living with dementia to connect with nature and enjoy meaningful outdoor activities
Right at Home UK has announced a new partnership with Dementia Adventure, a charity that supports people living with dementia and their carers to connect with the great outdoors.
The homecare provider, which has over 80 franchises across the country, has pledged to support the charity through national fundraising efforts and community engagement initiatives over the next three years.
Dementia Adventure aims to empower those living with dementia to enjoy exciting and meaningful experiences, regardless of financial and social barriers.
It delivers supported holidays, providing an essential escape for people with dementia and their loved ones, and Green Letter Days, which bring families together for dementia-inclusive days out, with excursions ranging from sport spectating to kayaking trips.
Through the new partnership, Right at Home will raise vital funds to enable Dementia Adventure to offer subsidised dementia holidays and financial help for those who can’t afford a supported holiday or day excursion.
In June, the partners will launch the ‘Big Green Picnic’, which will see Right at Home franchises across the country hosting picnics in their area, bringing together clients, carers and wider communities for a day of fundraising.
Lucy Campbell, CEO of Right at Home UK, said: “We’re incredibly enthused to be launching this new partnership with Dementia Adventure – it is a wonderful charity whose work really does challenge perceptions and help people living with dementia to enjoy an improved quality of life.
“We recognise huge potential for our franchise teams to build upon the positive impact that their services have, and to benefit their local communities on a wider scale, through the many exciting projects that we are working on together.”
Over the next three years, Right at Home franchises will collaborate with Dementia Adventure to create tailored Green Letter Days for those they support.
Right at Home CareGivers will also have access to Dementia Adventure’s online training offering, giving them the knowledge and confidence to create inclusive and enjoyable outdoor experiences for their clients who live with dementia.
Research by the charity* shows that meaningful outdoor activity and connection with the natural environment can have a positive effect on people living with dementia and can slow down the progression of the symptoms.
Fiona Petit, CEO of Dementia Adventure, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Right at Home UK. It’s a perfect fit in terms of our shared values and commitment to provide person-centred support and enhance the well-being of those being cared for at home.
“With support from Right at Home franchises, Dementia Adventure will enable many more people living with dementia to enjoy the beauty, fun and sense of adventure which come with connecting with nature and the great outdoors. As their Charity of the Year, we are already planning together a number of events and fundraising ideas which we know will have a meaningful and beneficial impact for both their clients and ours.”
