Red Rose Care Community, Newark, launches Christmas card competition for local schools to create festive cheer

Red Rose Care Community has this week announced the launch of a brand-new ‘Christmas card competition’, which welcomes entries from primary schools in the local area.

The competition has invited children from local primary schools – St Peter’s Cross Keys C of E Academy, Sir Donald Bailey Academy, Chuter Ede Primary – though entries are welcomed from other local schools. Children are encouraged to design a festive card that will be sent out to residents’ families and local businesses this Christmas. This fun and creative initiative aims to bring festive cheer to the home and foster connections between the generations within the Newark community.

The winning design will be printed and used as the official Red Rose Christmas card for 2024, with prizes for the top three young artists including art supplies, a sweetie hamper and an Amazon voucher. All participants will be invited to a Festive Tea Party at the care home in December, where they can meet residents and enjoy a Christmas-themed afternoon of carols and refreshments.

This exciting initiative is being led by the homes’ newly appointed Community Engagement Manager, Sarah Taylor. Sarah is dedicated to creating meaningful connections between the care home residents and the local area, and this competition is just the first of many activities she plans to introduce to building stronger relationships between residents, families, and the broader community. In the new year, Sarah plans to launch a ‘pen pal’ initiative to further strengthen relationships between the children and Red Rose residents.

Sarah said: “We’re thrilled to launch this competition and look forward to seeing some fantastic entries and the creativity of local schoolchildren. Christmas time can be a challenging time for many residents, and initiatives like this bring so much joy and connection. I’m excited to work closely with our community to bring people together in new ways.”

Sarah invites staff from other local schools to get in touch if they would like their pupils to enter the competition. Designs should be A5 and on the theme of ‘Christmas joy and community’, and will be collected by Red Rose Care Home by Friday 29th November. Sarah added: “Bonus points for any child who manages to incorporate a ‘red rose’ into their design!”
