New Wichelstowe care home celebrates Halloween in style with public pumpkin carving contest

Willowbrook View carving contest for Halloween
Willowbrook View, a new luxury care home in Wichelstowe which will open its doors in January 2025, made a big splash in the community this week by hosting a series of Halloween-themed events around town. Guests were invited to take part in a community-wide pumpkin hunt followed by a lively pumpkin carving competition at three ‘Pumpkin Party Trick & Treat’ stations.
They were also treated to refreshments, games and activities for the whole family, and met the team that will be running Willowbrook View when it opens its door next year. Based in the new Wichelstowe housing development south of Swindon, the home intends to be an active and engaged participant in the daily life of the town.
Christopher Guest, Customer Relationship Manager at Willowbrook View, shares his thoughts:
“At Willowbrook, we believe that creating friendly, supportive relationships with our neighbours is a crucial part of building a strong community. We want our residents to feel at home as soon as they set foot in the home; and that means making sure we connect them with the life of the town as well. In the run-up to launch, we will continue to build local partnerships so that we can really hit the ground running in January!”
All proceeds from the Halloween events will go to The Stowe Church on Staldon Street to support their efforts hosting various community events throughout the year. The initiative has also received strong backing from local partners, including Waitrose and housing developers based around Wichelstowe.
Dixie Benain-Ramsay, a local living on the development and who took part in the event, said:
“It’s been lovely to see the community together today, and Chris has been telling us all about the new care home that’s being built. Having a care home here is so important for our families and our children will love to see their residents in their activities.”
Willowbrook View is planning several more community projects over November and December, including ‘open-dining’ events which will open up the home’s on-site kitchen to the public, and even a community garden planting project with a local school.
Christopher Guest again:
“Our goal is to create a space where our residents, their families, and the entire Wichelstowe community feel connected and supported. Willowbrook View will be a place that goes beyond standard care, contributing to the well-being of our whole community. A day of pumpkin carving around Wichelstowe is only the start: watch this space!”
Willowbrook View officially opens its doors to residents in January 2025 at a grand launch event on the home’s purpose-built premises at Barwell Avenue, Wichelstowe. Anyone keen to attend can RSVP at christopher.guest@willowbrookview.co.uk, or call 01793 387950.
