Premium homecare provider Venelle has launched a new children’s book designed to support families in preparing their homes for older relatives this Christmas – particularly those living with dementia or mobility challenges.
‘Granny’s Coming To Ours For Christmas,’ released on 10th December as a special limited edition priced at £15, combines festive storytelling with practical guidance that empowers younger family members to help keep grandparents safe, comfortable and included during gatherings over the Christmas period. All proceeds of the book will be going to Resonate Arts, the Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea organisation who support people living with dementia.
The book features “Dolly the dachshund” – based on Founder & CEO Louise Blezzard’s real dog – who guides children through simple home adaptations and caring behaviours that reduce risks and strengthen intergenerational bonds. It includes a dedicated home-safety checklist, co-created by Venelle’s care team, highlighting measures such as improved lighting, access planning and hydration support.
Louise Blezzard, CEO & Founder of Venelle, commented, saying: “Intergenerational care is a powerful driver of wellbeing and belonging. By engaging children in the preparation and planning around Christmas visits, we can reduce anxiety for older adults and increase their participation in family life. This book is a joyful tool to spark those conversations and encourage proactive inclusive care at home.”
The title has been illustrated by 22-year-old West Sussex-based talent Chloe Hills-Lowbridge, who drew emotional inspiration from the loss of her own grandmother last year. It also doubles as a colouring-in activity, encouraging relaxed shared time between generations – something Venelle views as central to care-centred connection.
“I hope the story reminds families to slow down, include everyone and enjoy the traditions that matter most,” says Chloe.
Funds raised will support the continued delivery of creative, dementia-inclusive programmes run by Resonate Arts – fostering independence, reducing isolation and strengthening community ties.
Sam Curtis, Director of Resonate Arts, said: “Bringing together imagination, education and meaningful support is an innovative approach to public health. We are delighted to partner with Venelle on a project that reinforces the role of community-based care and creativity in improving quality of life for people living with dementia.”
Venelle sees this project as part of a wider ambition to redefine what “exceptional” looks like in home-based support. The organisation continues to champion personal connection, continuity of care and the enhancement of later-life experiences through thoughtful everyday detail.
“We want to lead by example – shifting the narrative from crisis response to proactive, preventative support at home,” adds Louise. “If we can engage families early, with warmth and creativity, that’s a meaningful step forward for all generations.”
