HC-One care homes celebrate The 2024 European Championships

Rose Court residents enjoying watching The Euros

HC-One care home residents and colleagues across the UK have been on the edge of their seats, cheering on and supporting their chosen countries in the 2024 UEFA European Football Championships matches which kicked off on June 14 through to July 14, 2024 with 24 teams competing for the coveted trophy.

At Rose Court Care Home in Radcliffe, Manchester, resident sport enthusiasts enjoyed watching the Quarter Finals football match where England came out on top in a penalty shootout against Switzerland. Residents enjoyed watching and cheering on England whilst treating themselves to a beer and nibbles in the home’s multimedia room.

Home Manager at Rose Court Care Home, Leanne Batten-Smith, commented:

“Residents were thrilled that England won their game against Switzerland in the Quarter Finals. We decorated the home for the occasion with England flags and football balloons. It was an amazing atmosphere and great to see residents enjoy themselves.”

At Quayside Care Home in Yoker, Glasgow, residents celebrated the kick off of the Euro Championships on June 14. To start the tournament, residents took part in a Fit-Baw session with UEFA B licensed football coach, Paul Mooney, who has 18-years’ experience in the industry. Paul did an armchair-based exercise class with residents, working on upper and lower body exercises with afutsal ball, whilst playing some toe tapping music in the background to set the ambience for the session.

Afterwards residents enjoyed indulging in a tasting session with a selection of food and drink from Germany before watching the start of The Euros tournament on the home’s new big TV screen. The new screen has recently been installed as part of Quayside’s recent refurbishment programme.

It was the first time since back in 1988 in France that Scotland kicked off The Euros tournament by playing Germany, who are the hosts of this year’s football tournament. Unfortunately for residents and colleagues at Quayside, who were supporting Scotland, Germany won the match 5-1.

Anne McDade, Wellbeing Coordinator at Quayside Care Home, said:

“We booked the Fit-Baw sessions to promote mobility and help residents keep fit and active, it was great to tie this in with The Euros starting.

“We have a monthly tasting session at Quayside, and it seemed apt to make our monthly tasting session for this month ‘A taste of Germany’ so residents could sample different flavours and foods that Scottish football fans attending the match in person in Germany would be experiencing.

“This helped replicate the same experience for our residents watching the match at Quayside.”

At Newlands Care Home in Stockport, Cheshire, residents have been watching various football matches involving the England national football team. The ladies in the care home even had a pamper session to commemorate The Euros by getting their nails especially painted with the England flag.

Resident Joan enjoyed singing the ‘Three Lions’ song as she got her nails painted and commented:

“I’ve really enjoyed watching England play in the football matches and have been cheering them on to win their matches. I even got my nails painted with the England flag to show my support for the team!”
