Community spirit shines brightly as residents and colleagues unite to donate food and essentials to local charity, New Beginnings Reading

Residents and colleagues at local care home Signature at Caversham have recently collected and donated a significant amount of food to a local homeless charity.

This donation reflects the home’s ongoing commitment to supporting those in need in the local community.

The charity, New Beginnings Reading, is dedicated to the prevention and relief of poverty and financial hardship for individuals in Reading and the Greater Berkshire area. It provides vital support to locals, including clothing, food, personal care items, and signposting to additional support services, to help those facing social or economic difficulties. Their mission also includes promoting social inclusion and assisting people to reintegrate into society.

One of the charity’s flagship projects is the Queens Arms pub in Great Knollys Street, which has been transformed into a community hub offering a community fridge for the distribution of free food, as well as an All-Day Café, where anyone can stop by for a cup of tea and a friendly chat.

After learning more about the inspiring work of New Beginnings, the decision was made to donate to the charity. As part of their community efforts, Signature at Caversham encouraged colleagues and residents to donate food to help support a local cause.

Maria Reed, Client Liaison Coordinator at Signature at Caversham, commented:

“At Signature at Caversham, we believe in the importance of giving back to our community, and we are incredibly proud of the effort shown by our residents and colleagues in supporting New Beginnings Reading.

“This initiative has not only allowed us to contribute to an incredible cause but has also created a sense of shared purpose within our home. We are committed to continuing our support for local charities and helping to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need.”

The donation was a true team effort, with colleagues and residents organising the collection, sorting the food into bags, and then delivering the items to New Beginnings’ centre in the heart of Reading.

The generosity of Signature at Caversham’s team created a great talking point among residents, many of whom expressed their pride in contributing to such a worthwhile cause.

Jill, a resident at Signature at Caversham, said:

“Knowing our contributions will help people in need in our local community is all that matters to me. New Beginnings does amazing work, and it feels good to be able to support their efforts!”

The home regularly engages in charitable initiatives, with colleagues and residents alike eager to make a positive impact in their community. Just recently, Signature at Caversham organised a successful collection of school uniforms to support local charity The Cowshed.

The team at New Beginnings expressed their gratitude for the generous donation, which will go a long way in supporting those in need throughout Reading and the surrounding area.
