Carefest made a triumphant return to Sheffield last bank holiday weekend for its highly anticipated fourth year, an annual music festival to appreciate and thank all the carers, nurses, doctors, emergency services and other healthcare workers for the amazing work they do. This year’s event was bigger and better than ever, with nearly 500 attendees enjoying a day filled with food, drinks, music, family activities and standout performances from Homecare’s Got Talent winner Gordon Robertson and 80’s pop sensation Sonia.
Organised by Dan Archer, UK CEO of Visiting Angels, Carefest was established in 2021 as a way to recognise and thank carers for their invaluable service. The festival is open to all frontline workers, not just those from Visiting Angels, offering them a chance to unwind and enjoy a day full of fun and appreciation.
“Year after year, Carefest has been a cherished day for care staff and key workers to come together and enjoy some well-deserved fun,” said Dan. Even though the weather was a bit unpredictable this year, we were fortunate that the usual bank holiday rain stayed away – allowing us to fully celebrate the incredible people who give so much to our community.
“We can’t afford to overlook the dedication of these amazing workers. If they don’t feel appreciated, we risk losing them from the care sector. That’s why it’s so important for them to know that their hard work is recognised. Carefest is our way of showing gratitude each year, making sure they understand just how much they mean to all of us.”
In addition to captivating performances by Gordon Robertson and Sonia, the stage featured Yorkshire-based singer and actor Joseph O’Brien, the high-energy party band Rapture and local young stars from Razzmatazz Theatre School. Attendees enjoyed an array of local business stalls, face painting, thrilling rides and a hog roast. As a special gesture of appreciation, care workers from South Yorkshire were treated to complimentary food and drinks throughout the event.
The event lived up to expectations, as one attendee put it, “This was our third time at Carefest and, while it’s always been a great experience, this year really topped them all. The bigger stage was a huge success and the entertainment had something for everyone. We loved the variety of stalls, food stands and, of course, the bar. We stay the entire afternoon every year and we’d recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic time. We’re already excited to come back next year!”
As in previous years, Carefest supported two important local charities, Paces and Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, through collection tins and raffles, raising hundreds of pounds for these worthy causes.
“I’m truly thankful to everyone who came out to support our amazing care workers and two wonderful charities,” added Dan. “It was so heartwarming to see so many people come together to show their appreciation and have a great time. We couldn’t have achieved this without the dedication and contributions of everyone involved. Bring on Carefest 2025!”
