Community minded residents of a Salisbury care home have done their bit for the UK’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
A party of volunteer litter pickers from Colten Care’s Braemar Lodge took part in the Great British Spring Clean, organised by the charity Keep Britain Tidy.
Dressed in hi-visibility vests and equipped with bags, hoops and long-handled pickers, ten residents and eight team members spent a morning clearing away litter in and around nearby Victoria Park.
They collected enough discarded waste items to fill four large bags.
Two residents spoke afterwards of their reasons for being involved and the enjoyment they had after crossing over Stratford Road to lend a hand in the park.
Elizabeth Lawrence said: “I’ll do anything to help with this good cause.”
Fellow resident Beatrice Stubbs said: “Everyone was happy and laughing.”
Home Manager Jackie Cash said: “We started the day in Victoria Park and then expanded our collection area to surrounding hedges around the perimeter.
“It was a great opportunity for our residents to get involved with a community event.
“It created lots of positivity and laughter within the group and we had a great turnout.”
The Braemar Lodge party organised their litter-pick in conjunction with Salisbury City Council and were joined on the day by Councillor Sharon Rideout and her granddaughter.
Equipment was supplied by Salisbury-based staff at grounds maintenance contractor idverde who also arranged for the filled litter bags to be collected from Braemar Lodge later in the day.
