Care Home Open Week 2026 launches free NAPA World Cup activity pack for care homes

FIFA World Cup 2026

The activity pack is designed to spark ideas and give practical help to activity providers taking part in Care Home Open Week, 15–21 June 2026

Care homes across the UK can now register to access a free FIFA World Cup 2026 activity toolkit created by NAPA – the National Activity Providers Association – to support this year’s football‑themed Care Home Open Week. The inspiring 26-page pack is designed for activity providers and care teams and is packed with flexible, low‑pressure ideas to help every service join in, regardless of size, budget or level of football interest.

Developed by NAPA, the toolkit uses the World Cup as a familiar theme to spark connection, belonging and shared experience across generations. It offers ready‑to‑use, person‑centred activities that can be adapted for different ages and abilities, including people living with dementia, those with limited mobility and individuals who prefer to observe quietly rather than take part.

“Celebrating the FIFA World Cup in care settings is about creating moments of connection, joy and shared experience,” says Hilary Woodhead, Chief Executive Officer at NAPA. “This 2026 activity pack offers practical ideas to help care services bring the spirit of the World Cup to life in ways that are meaningful and inclusive for everyone’.

What’s inside the NAPA World Cup activity pack?

The new FIFA World Cup 2026 toolkit gives activity providers everything they need to bring the tournament to life in a safe, inclusive and dementia‑friendly way. It includes, for example:

  • Structured but adaptable movement games such as seated football, tabletop football and a gentle penalty shootout challenge, all with clear safety prompts and adaptations for mixed mobility.
  • Creative sessions like flag‑making, printable World Cup bunting and “design your own team shirt” to support self‑expression, fine motor skills and a shared “team wall” for the home.
  • Sensory and reminiscence ideas such as “Taste of the World” small‑plates sessions, football memories circles, music and movement playlists and calm match‑day socials.
  • Simple engagement boosters including sticker‑voting boards, football trivia, bingo and sing‑along sessions, designed for people who may only want brief, low‑demand interaction.

Every activity is written with person‑centred care in mind and comes with practical adaptation tips for cognitive and sensory needs, communication differences and low stamina. The toolkit also gives guidance on creating supportive environments by giving tips on noise management, lighting and quiet spaces, so care homes can balance celebration with calm.

Supporting Care Home Open Week 2026

Care Home Open Week runs from 15–21 June 2026, coinciding with the start of the FIFA World Cup on June 11. The annual engagement event, run by Championing Social Care, has 5,500 care homes open their doors to neighbours, local businesses, community groups and MPs.

The NAPA World Cup activity pack has been developed to sit alongside Championing Social Care’s free resources and templates, making it even simpler for homes to host football‑themed events, viewing parties and inter‑generational activities that showcase the warmth and creativity of modern care.

Mitesh Dhanak, board member of Championing Social Care and chair of the Care Home Open Week committee, says: “The NAPA World Cup toolkit equips care homes to plan everything from large communal events to small, quiet sessions tailored to individual preferences. Whether it’s a full World Cup watch party, a gentle music-and-movement group or a simple flag-voting activity, the pack is an indispensable guide to inspire and help staff deliver moments of joy for residents, staff and communities.”

Care homes can register now for Care Home Open Week 2026 to download the free NAPA FIFA World Cup 2026 activity pack, packed with ready-to-use ideas, templates and guidance for safe, inclusive celebrations.
