After the success of last year’s visit, residents and staff at one care home in Braintree were eager to welcome back their friendly four legged friends once again.
The sun was shining as horses Louis, Django and Teddy arrived with their handlers to greet residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Princes Edward Duke of Kent Court, which supports older people with residential care and residential dementia support.
“Our residents were so excited to see the horses, many of them remembered their visit from last year,” says Sophie George, the Home’s Activities Coordinator, who helped to organise the special visit.
We’re all aware of the benefits animals can have on our wellbeing. Research has shown that having something to pet or touch can result in lower blood pressure, better heart rate and reduced stress. This is coupled with spending time outdoors in
nature, which as Covid times reminded many of us, is so vital for our health and wellbeing.
“Last year, I was a little afraid of horses but after they visited, I felt much more confident and comfortable around them. This year, I even had one of the horses eat out of my hand,” says resident Audrey.
