Although Staff Appreciation Week is traditionally in March, South Lodge Care Home in Leicester, an Avery Healthcare-owned facility, celebrated early to ensure every team member could participate.
The care home hosted a vibrant “Around the World in Five Days” Staff Appreciation Week, celebrating the rich cultural diversity of its workforce through food, entertainment, and interactive activities.
Each day of the week focused on a different cultural theme, transforming the home into a lively celebration of international traditions.
Staff and residents took part in activities such as African games, British karaoke, a European afternoon tea, a Chinese workshop, and an energetic chair Bhangra dance session.
A highlight of the week was a captivating performance by the Andante Duo Singers, adding a special touch to the festivities.
The Culinary Team prepared a variety of global dishes, including jerk chicken, beef lasagne, pierogi, Thai curry, and chilli paneer.
Night staff also enjoyed cultural meals, including a cooked breakfast, Jamaican Puffs, Baklava, Barfi, fortune cookies, and dumplings sourced from local shops.
David Jeffs, part of the Maintenance Team at South Lodge Care Home, said, “It’s been great. It’s brought smiles to the faces of the staff. I’m a fussy eater, but it’s given me a chance to try something new!”
Nicole MacCleod, Deputy Manager at the 96-bed care home, added, “This is my second day, and I think it has been brilliant. Staff are really getting involved and enjoying it. It’s been a really good idea.”
Donna Bradley, Home Manager at South Lodge Care Home, said, “Our staff are the heart of South Lodge, and this week was our way of showing deep appreciation for their dedication. It was wonderful to see everyone embrace the activities, share their cultures, and feel valued.”
Jamal Sheikh, Client Liaison Manager, concluded, “It was amazing to be part of such a meaningful celebration. The sense of appreciation and belonging was truly special.”
South Lodge Care Home, part of Avery Healthcare, provides person-centred residential, respite, and dementia care.
