Co-Production

Co-creating quality

Trudy Riley, Quality Assurance Director at care home group Serencroft, discusses the role of co-production in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

At Serencroft, we proudly care for 195 adults across four homes, offering services like short stays, mental health support, dementia care, nursing care, and end-of-life care. Recognising that each individual has unique needs, we are dedicated to partnering with those we support from the moment they join us. This commitment is achieved through co-production, a transformative approach that enhances the quality of care we provide.

Let’s Talk Co-Production!

Co-production is at the heart of our philosophy, revolutionising the care model from a service delivered to individuals into one created alongside them. Our service users aren’t just passive recipients; they become equal partners in their care journey! By tapping into their lived experiences, we drive meaningful improvements that make a genuine difference in their lives.

This method ensures individuals are fully involved in decisions about their care. By listening to their voices and incorporating their feedback, we deliver person-centered care that truly enhances quality of life. Isn’t that what we all want?

Teaming Up for Quality

As Quality Assurance Director, embedding co-production into every aspect of care is my top priority. We’ve integrated a collaborative approach into all stages of service delivery—from developing care plans during admission to ongoing assessments that allow individuals to shape their care. This ensures that care is responsive and aligns with personal goals.

Involving service users early in the process enables truly tailored care. Our residents have a say in everything, from daily routines to long-term objectives. Some have regained their ability to drive, while others have gone on holiday or discovered new hobbies with our support.

Together We Thrive

The impact of co-production on care delivery at Serencroft has been remarkable. For example, one resident wanted to regain independence after a hospital stay. By collaborating with our care team, they developed a rehabilitation plan that included physical therapy and confidence-building activities. The result? They regained mobility, self-esteem, and became more engaged in the community.

Our service users also play a crucial role in the recruitment process, helping to interview potential staff members. Their feedback is invaluable; they know exactly the kind of care they want, ensuring we hire people aligned with our values. Now that’s teamwork!

Personalisation Powered by Participation

To keep co-production thriving, we’ve implemented participatory frameworks like resident focus groups, consultations, and feedback surveys. These platforms empower everyone to voice their thoughts on daily routines and organisational decisions. We listen closely to our residents and act on their feedback to refine our services.

The results have been profound, leading to new activities and personalised care experiences. People feel empowered because they see their ideas put into action, and isn’t that the best feeling?

Innovate to Elevate

Innovation and technology play a key role in enhancing co-production at Serencroft. Digital tools like feedback apps and electronic health records streamline communication, allowing individuals to share preferences and track progress. Technology provides a real-time way to collaborate with those we support, ensuring care aligns with their goals.

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we’re investing in MedTec and exploring advanced technologies to provide even better, more innovative care. The future looks bright, and we’re excited to keep jazzing up our approach to quality care!

Looking Forward

Co-production is the cornerstone of quality care at Serencroft. By involving service users in shaping their care, we create an environment where individuals feel respected, valued, and empowered. This partnership enables us to deliver personalised, meaningful care that enhances quality of life.

Co-production has transformed care from something we do for people into something we do with them. It’s a partnership that leads to better outcomes, higher satisfaction, and, most importantly, happier lives.
