Avante Care & Support’s care home, Northbourne Court, has recently been revalidated by Eden Alternative assessors and granted a Platinum award status.
The assessment evaluated and measured Northbourne Court’s care delivery and philosophy, which is based on the Eden Alternative. All Avante Care staff are trained to understand and deliver this philosophy in their work with those Avante cares for and supports.
The revalidation of Northbourne Court looked at evidence against the 3 Key Principles of reducing loneliness, helplessness and boredom; the 7 Domains of Wellbeing (Identity, Growth, Security, Connectedness, Autonomy, Meaning and Joy); and the three Eden transformational changes: Personal; Environmental and Organisational, as well as the 10 Eden Principles overall.
Personal Transformation was assessed about staff understanding. The Organisational Culture was assessed in relation to how Eden flows through policies and practice with the organisation from the bottom up, and how transformational the leadership was seen to be in accordance with Eden Principles. Environmental Transformation was assessed in relation to how ‘homely’ the home was and felt.
One relative said that although their relative was living with Alzheimer’s, it was “not stopping her”, and added, “I would almost go as far as saying her memory seems improved since moving in. She really is so happy, and I am so relieved she is living there. As a family, we feel blessed.”
Another resident said,” Everybody here is good to me. The staff really look after me. The daily activities are absolutely brilliant.”
Jacqui Arnold, Eden Validator, summarised the report with: ‘It was a pleasure talking with the manager and her team, as well as the individuals they support and friends and family. It was refreshing to hear of all the accomplishments and the unique and interesting ways that Eden Principles are being implemented into the fabric of the Home and to see the people living, visiting and working there thrive.
This report is a huge testament to the manager, the team and the partnership working with the residents, relatives and Avante Care & Support. Northbourne Court is an exceptional home’.
