Newcomer to influential support worker: Ade’s Fast-Track Career Success

Ade, Support Worker of the Year

National Care Group’s Springvale Resource Centre, in Greater Manchester, is celebrating the success of one of its colleagues, who has been named ‘Support Worker of the Year’ at an annual awards.

Ade joined the specialist neurological service with no prior experience in social care. In less than two years, his confidence flourished, and he felt empowered to take on more responsibilities, resulting in a promotion to a senior role and a national award.

Wendy Bamford, Registered Manager at Springvale Resource Centre, nominated Ade for an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’. She said:

“Ade entered the field with fresh eyes, a compassionate heart, and a remarkable drive to make a difference. He joined as a bank support worker and, from the get-go, was eager to get involved with the complex care needs and routines of the people we support, build impactful relationships, and ultimately empower them to achieve their full potential. His quick progression to a senior support worker role, followed by promotion to team leader, reflects his dedication, ability, and natural leadership qualities. He’s a crucial part of our team at Springvale.”

Springvale Resource Centre is part of National Neurological Services (NNS), with services in Lancashire and Yorkshire, and is operated by leading adult social care provider National Care Group.

The annual ‘Outstanding Achievement Awards’, organised by National Care Group, recognise colleagues who go above and beyond their roles to make amazing things happen for supported people or their fellow team members. The award nominations were assessed by a panel of judges from National Care Group’s executive team and two supported people.

As part of the Outstanding Achievement Awards nomination, Wendy praised Ade’s contributions to championing independence for the people he supports, commitment to personal and professional development, and his willingness to go above and beyond to support his colleagues and the people supported at Springvale.

Ade played a crucial role in organising and supporting two people from Springvale to go on their first holiday in over 15 years. The trip was not just a break from routine but a life-enhancing opportunity that enabled the supported people to enjoy new experiences and personal achievements. Ade’s passionate support ensured that they were involved in the plans at every step, felt safe, and ultimately had an unforgettable vacation.

Wendy added: “Ade’s willingness to go the extra mile, whether staying late, picking up extra shifts, or creatively problem-solving, makes him an invaluable part of the team. He is a shining example of what outstanding support looks like and is incredibly deserving of the title Support Worker of the Year!”

National Care Group’s commitment to encouraging progression enabled Ade to develop the relevant skills and self-belief to succeed in his career in adult social care.

Karen Lewis, Chief Operating Officer, National Care Group, said:

“You don’t need qualifications or experience to join the social care sector and achieve career goals, and Ade’s story is a great example of thatNational Care Group’s commitment to promoting career progression ensures everyone feels valued and part of a richer community that not only builds personal career paths but also enriches the lives of those we support. Congratulations, Ade, on your award; we can’t wait to follow your next steps.”
