Radis Community Care donates IT equipment to well-known charity
It’s 2024 and we can’t deny just how crucial technology and digital aids are in this modern world that we all find ourselves living in.
And supporting that very notion, is leading community care provider, Radis Community Care, who, as a business, is continuing to prioritise its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Not only has the business refurbished IT equipment no longer in use, providing residents of a number of extra care services further opportunities to become independent and stay connected to loved ones, but it has also teamed up with The Turing Trust.
The Turing Trust gives new life to computers donated in the UK, using technology to empower disadvantaged communities in sub-Saharan Africa and has done since 2009.
The charity supports learning by reducing computers in classrooms globally, developing student’s skills whilst also reducing waste and contributing to an environmentally friendly society.
Donating 24 computers to the charity, Radis Community Care’s support has enabled a further 648 students to learn vital IT and digital skills.
Lorna Regan, Social Value Lead at Radis Community Care said of the donation:
“We’re continually seeking for ways to actively involve ourselves with and support charities, and add to our corporate social responsibility initiatives. And we’re delighted to have been able to help such an important charity, in line with Get Online Week.”
Adam Grimsdale, ICT Team Leader at Radis, also said:
“After some extensive research, we contacted The Turing Trust to see if and how we could help. We’d collected 24 redundant computers and screens, wiped them in accordance with GDPR and cyber security regulations and ensured the hardware was usable before it was all collected.
“It’s great to know that your old computer is helping someone in need, and is something we look to continue doing moving forwards.”
Beyond the support this donation will provide to students, the environmental impact of this will offset 10 tonnes of CO2 emissions – the equivalent of planting 25 trees.
It doesn’t stop there though, as the embodied energy savings created are enough to power two UK homes for an entire year.
Noah van der Linde, donations manager at The Turing Trust exclaimed that the charity is delighted with the donation from the care provider.
He said, “By donating their redundant computers and monitors, Radis Community Care is empowering students in underserved communities to learn digital skills for the very first time.
“We are proud and grateful for Radis’ ongoing support and look forward to a fruitful collaboration for years to come.”
