Home care service launches Wednesday Activity Club to connect individuals in the community

A Midlands-based home care service celebrates the success of its new monthly activity club aimed at promoting social interaction and combating loneliness among its clients and the wider community.

Recognising the issue of loneliness among many individuals, New Age Care launched its Wednesday Activity Club at the turn of the year and looks to build on the popular social gathering moving forward.

Samantha Whittaker, Director at New Age Care, said: “We created the Wednesday Club to help our care recipients talk and meet new friends. So many people are lonely, sitting at home alone week after week. We’ve been really pleased with the feedback we’ve had so far, and it has encouraged us to continue and make each session better and more engaging for more people who need it in our community.

“Two of our clients hadn’t seen each other in 30 years, and bumped into each other at our Wednesday Activity Club. Their families used to live on the same street, but one lady moved to another area and they lost touch. We didn’t know of their connection, so it was heartwarming to see how excited they were to see each other again and reminisce about the good old days. We have supported them since to help meet up for a coffee, and we’re looking forward to watching this friendship grow now they’ve re-found each other.”

So far, the club has hosted a range of activities, including a talk from a financial expert, a session with a voice coach, a visit from the fire service, and a police fraud squad talking about scam prevention, as well as performing seated exercises. Each session is complemented with an afternoon tea. New Age Care looks to build on its positive feedback and momentum, with an upcoming wine tasting afternoon and many more ideas to cater to diverse interests, aiming to engage both current care recipients and the wider community.

The Wednesday Activity Club takes place on the last Wednesday of each month from 2-5pm at the New Age Care headquarters. You can find the team at: Units 2&3 Pure Offices, 3 Plato Close, Leamington Spa, CV34 6WE.
