Residents from a New Forest care home made the most of some late summer sunshine with a nostalgic trip to a Dorset beach.
The afternoon at Avon Beach in Christchurch was organised by the Companionship Team at Colten Care’s Belmore Lodge in Lymington.
The outing was proposed by resident James Corbett whose wish was to revisit one of his favourite places.
He was joined by Louisa McIntyre and David Levene, who also live at Belmore Lodge, with the trio rekindling fond memories of seaside fun with family and friends in the past.
They enjoyed a 20-mile round trip accompanied by Home Manager Janie Wilkins, Companion Chelsea Lambert and Minibus Driver Dave Barron-Cook.
At Avon Beach they spent time on the sands, strolled along the quay and called in at a seafront café for fish and chips, drinks and conversation.
James said: “We had a lovely sunny afternoon out at Avon Beach and enjoyed fish and chips from the Noisy Lobster beach café. Dave was very kind finding us seats near the disabled toilet which came in handy! I’m looking forward to the next time.”
Janie said: “It was lovely to grant James’s wish and enable him, Louisa and David to revisit a special place they all used to go with their families. The trip was a great opportunity to rekindle some lovely memories.”
The visit was prompted by National Beach Day, founded in 2014 as an annual celebration of the natural beauty of coastal areas and designed to promote awareness of the need to keep beaches clean, safe and pollution-free.
