A five-day charity walk raising funds and awareness for mental health will take place from 23rd–27th March, covering 71 miles from Wembley Stadium to Northampton, led by senior figures from the social care sector.
The challenge is being undertaken by Dave, CEO of Independence Support, and his son Sean, ISL’s Wellbeing Coach. Together, they will walk an average of 14–15 miles a day, using the challenge to promote conversations around mental health, resilience and wellbeing across social care.
The route begins at Wembley Stadium, chosen to mark the location where Frank Bruno won his world heavyweight title in 1995, and finishes in Northampton at the Frank Bruno Foundation. Frank Bruno will join Dave and Sean for the final mile of the walk.
The challenge builds on a similar walk completed by the pair last year, when they covered 99 miles, took 226,651 steps, and raised £3,342 for local charity partners. That experience reinforced the impact that visible leadership and shared challenge can have in engaging teams and communities around wellbeing.
ISL supports adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs to live independently within their communities. Alongside frontline support, the organisation places a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing, empowerment and preventative approaches to mental health.
The walk aims to highlight the importance of looking after mental health within the social care workforce and the role that leadership-led initiatives can play in creating healthier, more resilient services.
