Athena Healthcare Group is a leading provider of high quality residential and nursing care homes in the North West.

This year, Athena created and spearheaded the Community Activity Hub for care home activity coordinators across the North West to share ideas and plans on activities, resources and day trips for their residents.

The hub also provides a vital link for elderly people who are lonely, isolated or living in sheltered accommodation or independently and now welcomes 15 different care homes to the monthly initiative, including Athena’s care homes – Parklands Lodge in Southport and Abbey Wood Lodge in Ormskirk.

Since the launch in March, Athena has whisked attendees on various exciting day trips across the North West and has hosted a wide variety of activities such as bingo, dancing and general knowledge quizzes at the hub’s base, Ormskirk’s Civic Hall.

In addition to the support and attendance of care homes and individuals, the Community Activity Hub is backed by local businesses, including eateries and hotels in Lancashire.

Attendees are asked to make a donation, which goes towards the running of the hub, with ideas for day trips and activities brought to the table by care homes’ activity coordinators and representatives.

Group Events Ambassador at Athena Healthcare Group, Lesley Malone, said: “We were so excited to launch the Community Activity Hub earlier this year.

“It’s all about bringing together care homes and the elderly across the North West and is the perfect place for us to bounce ideas off one another to ensure we really do help people age well in the community.

“The Community Activity Hub is Athena’s chance to make a difference to peoples’ lives in the community by reaching out and getting them involved with all the fabulous activities and day trips that are happening right on their door step.

“Whether it’s a care home, community group or an individual looking to get involved and meet new people, everyone is welcome.

“It really has been wonderful to watch not only the initiative grow, but friendships too, as we welcome new members each month!”

The official launch of the Community Activity Hub took place at Ormskirk’s Civic Hall on Thursday 16th March with special guests including former Everton FC player, Pat Van Den Hauwe and Henry Mooney, Events Organiser at Everton FC.
