The Greatest Showman Circus Fun Day at Langdon House care home celebrating a spectacular Care Home Open Week

Langdon House in Chesterton, Cambridge, transformed into a vibrant circus extravaganza for our Greatest Showman-themed community fun day.

The atmosphere was electric as residents and guests enjoyed a stilt walker, clowns, and even a strongman. We were honoured to have a special guest, Cllr Baiju Thittala Varkey, the Mayor of Cambridge, join us in the festivities.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and participated, and to our own team who worked tirelessly to make the day unforgettable for our residents and guests.

We’re delighted to announce that between running a stand at the Chesterton Festival and our Fun Day we raised a fantastic total of £434.50 for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Special thanks to Peasgood and Skeates for providing free ice creams, Magic Merlin for his fantastic balloon modelling, and Wildcard Events for their brilliant circus workshop and stilt walking.

Care Home Open Week, held annually at the end of June, aims to enrich the lives of our residents by inviting community members to meet them and the dedicated professionals who care for them.

Athena Care Homes has seven homes in Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, and Norfolk, including Langdon House in Chesterton and Alex Wood House in Arbury. Through a variety of special activities and events at all our homes, we showcased that our care homes are not only places of excellent care but also hubs of community connection.

Athena Chief Operating Officer Mandy Cockram said, “We always have a lot going on at Athena, but it was exciting to see the plans come together in the run-up to Care Home Open Week. Our homes planned several events to appeal to various audiences and the circus event at Langdon House was truly spectacular.

“Great weather allowed us to spend time in our lovely grounds and I want to thank everyone involved in making the week a success for Athena. Events were well attended by guests, friends, families, and local community members, but most importantly, our residents had a great week.”

The success of Care Home Open Week at Athena Care Homes reflects our commitment to providing excellent care and fostering meaningful connections. Our doors are always open to our local communities, and we are proud to embrace the message of Care Home Open Week, showing that care homes are places where residents can thrive, supported by dedicated professionals and a caring community. Thank you to everyone who participated and made Care Home Open Week a truly unforgettable experience
