Rotherham Care Home Celebrates 20th Anniversary in Style

As the third care home established by Rotherham-based Exemplar Health Care, and the first of its homes to receive an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Fairwinds holds a special place in the community.

Remarkably, three dedicated colleagues have been with the home since its doors first opened two decades ago.

The anniversary event featured an array of fun activities. An ice cream van provided refreshing treats, while the home’s Catering Team prepared a buffet for all attendees to enjoy.

The rest of the festivities included cake, dancing, and entertainment by local singer Donna Bell, who performed classic hits alongside the residents.

In recognition of the home’s impact on the local community, the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Sheila Cowen, attended the event. She expressed her delight and intention to visit Fairwinds again later this year.

Home Manager Kath Dye delivered a heartfelt speech, reflecting on the home’s journey and expressing gratitude to everyone for their support:

“I’m the very proud manager of Fairwinds complex needs care home and I’m delighted to celebrate this milestone with so many wonderful people. Fairwinds has always been about creating a home where everyone feels valued and loved, and it’s a privilege to be lucky enough to work in our residents’ home.”

Shelagh, the daughter of a long-term resident, praised the home:

“My Mum has lived at Fairwinds for the past 10 years. During that time, I’ve found everyone supporting her to be very friendly and understanding of my mum’s changing needs. I have a great relationship with the team caring for my mum, and I know that she is in a safe environment. It’s a comfort to me to know that all her health needs are being attended to.”

Anusha, a physiotherapist at Fairwinds, highlighted the team’s dedication:

“The team at Fairwinds care home are some of the most dedicated and compassionate professionals I have ever worked with. Their dedication towards residents’ wellbeing created a supportive and nurturing environment that greatly enhanced our ability to deliver effective physiotherapy treatments in a timely manner.”

Fairwinds care home, which provides complex nursing care for adults living with a range of complex and high acuity needs, continues to be committed to improvement. Their next goal is to make their garden more wheelchair-friendly, enabling all residents to enjoy celebrations and events together. The team has already begun implementing an action plan to achieve this.
