CARE TALK has been reported
in Hansard by
David Taylor MP
(Lab Co-op Leicestershire NW).
David has been to four CARE TALKs run with East Midlands C.A.R.E
and attended our meetings in Parliament to meet Care Providers and Relatives of Residents.

In 2004 David introduced a
Private Member¹s Bill calling for a
Commissioner for the Elderly.
He assures us that what he has learned
through CARE TALK and
The WATCH Project
helped him realise the need.

Dear Julia

Thank you for the meeting WATCH set up for me with Kerry Pollard MP on Monday evening concerning issues in the Care Industry. As you suggested I have made contact with Jeff Ennis MP for Barnsley East & Mexborough
who had already been briefed by Kerry.

Mr Ennis was very interested in our situation concerning the future level of
funding for one of our residents. He has requested the information in writing and on receipt has promised to take the issue up directly with the Chief Executive of Social Services a person I have been previously unable to contact.

Thank you for your continued work for Care Homes and elderly people.

Laurence Fenton
Financial Director,
Mimosa Healthcare Group.

Members of Parliament value our understanding of professional lobbying and influencing. They say they also value our opinions because we
o are NOT Care Home Owners
o do NOT have a Membership
o are NOT in receipt of taxpayers' funding and
o ARE, therefore, the independent voice in the industry.

Below s a list of MPs and Peers and MEPs we have lobbied. Many have a specific interest or a portfolio which covers Social Care, Housing, Health and business.

Because of these links we are approached for information to contribute to Parliamentary debate, arrange for MPs to meet groups, take groups to meet MPs and have been mentioned in Hansard.

When YOU support US it opens the door wider as we are able to approach those who represent you and your Employees and Residents and alert a wider audience to the issues.

November 1999. CARE TALK - Northamptonshire:
With Julia are Kerry Pollard JP MP (Lab St Albans) and
David Willetts MP (Con Havant) Shadow Secretary of State for
Social Security.

Tim Boswell MP (Con Daventry), Opposition Disability Spokesman and Lord Clement-Jones CBE, LibDem Health Spokesman in the Lords, have also been to
hear from Owners and Managers at Northamptonshire CARE TALKs.

January 2003:
CARE TALK -
Hereford & Worcester

Julia argues the case for the easing of the Environmental Standards with Health Minister Jacqui Smith MP, Peter Luff MP (Conservative) and Paul Keetch MP (LibDem).

A major achievement of this January 2003 CARE TALK was to introduce the Health Minister responsible for Social Care to the Chief Executive Officers of the National Care Homes Association and the Registered Nursing Homes Association.

March 2004: CARE TALK -
East Midlands: Julia with
Paul Holmes MP
(Lib Dem Chesterfield)
Front Bench Health Spokesman and
Edward Garnier QC MP
(Con Harborough)

June 2003:
Mark Harper, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate forthe Forest of Dean, asked WATCH to arrange for local people to brief Liam Fox MP,
then Shadow Health Secretary.

We arranged a meeting at Euroclydon Nursing Home near Cinderford to alert Dr Fox to premature deaths of the elderly due to enforced moves especially the case of Mrs Violet (Cissie) Townsend of Gloucester who died 10 days
after being moved against the advice of her GP.
(The WATCH meeting was sponsored by Resource Partners.
In May 2005 Mark Harper entered Parliament as Member for the Forest of Dean.)
